Last year, it was announced that the third chapter of Trollhunters will be the last of the adventure series. Now, Netflix has added in three new cast members, including Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany, and Narcos star Diego Luna. The third addition is Emile Hirsch, who will be taking over the role of Jim Lake, Jr., originally voiced by Anton. Here are some more details per Deadline:

Maslany and Luna will voice Aja and Krel, two mysterious new students who unknowingly come to the aid of the Trollhunters team in the fight against Morgana. The duo will also reprise their roles and serve as the leads of the next installment in the Tales of Arcadia trilogy, DreamWorks 3 Below, set to debut on Netflix later this year.

Hirsch takes on the role of Jim Lake, Jr., originally voiced by the late Anton Yelchin. Yelchin completed his work on the first two seasons and a considerable portion of season three before his unexpected passing in 2016. Del Toro and his creative team found a unique way to incorporate a voice transition organic to the story and create a path for Hirsch, a dear friend of Yelchin’s ,to carry on his legacy and role. Yelchin’s performance has been left intact where possible and some portions have been merged with Hirsch’s performance to complete season three, according to Netflix and DreamWorks.

In DreamWorks Trollhunters Part 3 the fate of troll and human civilizations hang in the balance. The Trollhunters are racing to stop Gunmar and the now resurrected Morgana from bringing about the Eternal Night and shrouding the world in darkness forever. To defeat them, the team must seek the help of the legendary wizard Merlin to unlock his ancient magic and unleash a powerful weapon that will alter the course of their lives forever.

The second season of Trollhunters is set to debut on Netflix next month, December 15th. Guillermo del Toro mentioned before that Anton’s work will still be a part of the second season. “The reality and the beauty of this is that we can continue not only the storyline and the characters, but we have a huge swath of work from Anton that allows us to continue Anton through more than half the season,” he told Entertainment Weekly. Check out the trailer for the new season, dubbed as Trollhunters Part 2!

From the limitless imagination of master storyteller Guillermo del Toro comes a tale of two worlds set to collide in the epic saga DreamWorks Trollhunters. When ordinary teenager Jim Lake Jr. stumbles upon a mystical amulet on his way to school one morning, he inadvertently discovers an extraordinary secret civilization of mighty trolls beneath his small town of Arcadia. Strong-willed and seeking adventure but wholly unprepared for the responsibilities thrust upon him, Jim is forced to take on the exalted mantle of Trollhunter, sworn to protect the good trolls from powerful enemies bent on revenge. The first human ever to hold the honor, Jim abruptly goes from fighting his way through the daily mayhem of high school to joining a war that has raged for centuries, a conflict that now threatens all of mankind and troll-kind alike. Accompanied by his closest human friends and a few key troll allies, the courageous fifteen-year-old must plunge headlong into a fantastical world of astonishing creatures, glorious cities, and fierce enemies desperate to destroy him. Suddenly destined to play a crucial role in an ancient battle of good and evil with stakes that couldn’t be higher, Jim is determined to save the world — right after gym class. DreamWorks Trollhunters is a heroic tale that uncoils with ambitious, complex storytelling and stunning visuals that raise the bar for animated series, creating an event series that will thrill the entire family.

Guillermo del Toro spoke with Entertainment Weekly and talked about the renewal of Trollhunters and how Anton’s work will go on for the second season. The first season is still available for streaming on Netflix.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: It seems like you have some news to share.
GUILLERMO DEL TORO:
Well, we got very good news about how many people were watching the series, but we got confirmation that the next [13] episodes are a go. We’ve been working on a second season for a while now because we knew that if everything went right, we could proceed. We’re going to go ahead and now continue, rather than start, because we’ve been doing it for more than a year. The reality and the beauty of this is that we can continue not only the storyline and the characters, but we have a huge swath of work from Anton that allows us to continue Anton through more than half the season.

How did you approach the show following the loss of Anton?
From the get-go, even in the first season, we knew we wanted to preserve as much of the performance of Anton as possible, both from an artistic and a human point of view, and also simply because I think it’s a tribute to what we think he brings to the role of Jim. From the beginning when we planned the writers’ room, we set out a map of 52 episodes, and created arcs that break every 13, and those were planned four years ago. So we have been recording Kelsey Grammer, Anton, Ron Perlman, Clancy Brown, everybody involved in the series for years and years. And there was a break in the arc in the right episode that allows us to preserve all the work that Anton did that was phenomenal. At the end of recording sessions, Anton did one of the most complex episodes and then he looked at the pilot, complete, and there was a great moment in which he was able to see the work and do a really complicated episode in which he did multiple voices and we were all so proud and so close when we lost him. And now I can tell you, we’re not only going to second season, but we’re going to be able to preserve a really large part of it with Anton’s voice.

Does his passing change anything in your initial plan, or are you sticking to it?
Actually, coincidentally, we have an event in the last episode Anton did which allows us to sort of change his voice slightly, so the character stays — but we didn’t plan this. It was pure serendipity that we had that in the works. The beats of the second season have been set for years, and as of now, we have not altered or needed to alter a single beat.

David E. Kelley’s series adaptation of Mr. Mercedes is moving forward.

The forthcoming AT&T Audience Network drama has tapped Penny Dreadful grad Harry Treadaway to replace the late Anton Yelchin, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Mr. Mercedes, based on Stephen King’s 2014 book of the same name, follows a demented killer who taunts a retired police detective with a series of lurid letters and emails, forcing the ex-cop to undertake a private, and potentially felonious, crusade to bring the killer to justice before he is able to strike again.

Treadaway will play Brady Hartsfield, a mentally deranged ice cream truck driver and IT worker who is secretly the Mercedes Killer. He will star opposite Brendan Gleeson, who will portray Detective Bill Hodges, a retired cop driven out of retirement when an old nemesis reappears.

The adaptation received a straight-to-series order in May with Yelchin and Gleeson attached. However, the Star Trek actor was tragically killed in a car accident the following month. He was 27 years old.

Kelley will serve as showrunner on the series, which is being produced by Sonar Entertainment. Jack Bender (Lost) is set to direct. The duo will executive produce with Temple Hill Entertainment’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey. Mr. Mercedes is slated for a 2018 debut on DirecTV and AT&T U-verse.
